One Man Poe: ‘The Black Cat’ and ‘The Raven’

Threedumb Theatre

The Barn

An Edinburgh Fringe Preview show:

Renowned as the ‘Godfather of Gothic Horror’, Edgar Allan Poe was a pioneer in establishing the horror genre. Although his works are nearly 200 years old, Poe’s stories have stood the test of time and have inspired a countless number of horror writers.

To commemorate the 175th anniversary of his Poe’s mysterious death, and using his original text from the 1840s, award-winning local actor Stephen Smith faithfully brings his words to life, performing two of the most thrilling examples of gothic literature:

Arguably Poe's darkest tale, The Black Cat documents an alcoholic's last confession on the eve of his death. A story not for the faint-hearted. Then, the poem that made Poe famous: The Raven. In the midnight hour, as an elderly man laments the loss of his love, an ominous visitor is heard tapping on his chamber door...
